The Laboratory of Engineering Geology (EnGeo) was established in 1988 as an organic unit of the Department of Geology of the University of Patras and became autonomous in the year 2000 under Presidential Decree 284/2000. It has a long and significant contribution to the educational and research activities of the Department and possesses modern laboratory and scientific equipment used in various research subjects. It is active in research topics related to the study and operation of engineering projects as well as their impacts on the environment, with geohazards and their mitigation being a key research pillar of the laboratory. The laboratory's research team includes faculty members, PhD holders, postgraduate students, and external scientific collaborators.

The laboratory also operates as a Service Provision Unit (MO.P.Y.) of the Research Committee of the University of Patras, providing services in the fields of Engineering Geology, Engineering Geology of Projects, and Rock Mechanics.
